25% of the “halcones” (lookouts) arrested in Guerrero are under 18 years old.
Local NGOs report that up to 60% of recruited minors are used as lookouts or messengers.
In 2011, Redim estimated that 30,000 children had been recruited by organized crime.
Currently, it is estimated that half a million children in Mexico are at risk of being recruited into organized crime due to factors such as addiction, school dropout, normalization of violence, narcoculture, poverty, and social marginalization.
